Our Story
We were there too.
After noticing a lack of support for international students and seeing many of our friends having to leave the country because they couldn’t find work, we decided to create a support system to bridge this gap.
Being one of the most underrepresented groups, facing unique barriers, and lacking a professional network makes job searching much harder for international students. This leads to many of them willing to settle for less and getting survival jobs to stay in Canada.
What initially started as a charity community group quickly grew and gained popularity among international students across Canada. In 2021, Isempower pivoted to a social impact venture, helping international students build meaningful careers in partnership with organizations, universities & colleges across the country.
From coffee chats to social impact venture...
Started as a charitable MeetUp group in Vancouver. Our founder, Pat Chaisang, offered free resume review sessions & events at local coffee shops.
Grew a volunteer group to 13 members. Organized 2 mentorship programs with 100+ mentors and mentees and hosted 20+ free online webinars.
Pivoted to a social impact venture model. Grew the core team coast to coast to provide job search training programs for international students country-wide, hitting 10,000 students.
