How to Write a Resume Without Work Experience

Can you write a resume without any work experience? YES, YOU SURE CAN!

Experience included in a resume does not always have to be about work or volunteer experience only. Other things like education, projects, hobbies, interests, certifications also matter!

Let’s say you have never worked professionally before nor have any volunteer position in the past. You can create a no-experience resume by following our tips below.

  1. Emphasize your education

If you don’t have any work experience, start your resume with an education section instead. This will draw the reader’s attention to education which you can further highlight the area of your study, GPA, awards, relevant coursework for example.

  1. Focus on projects

There are three types of projects, academic, work, volunteer projects. If you don’t have any work experience, you can include projects on your resume as the experience. For example, you can create a section that is called “Project Experience” and highlight the project name and the achievements, key learnings, and responsibilities.

  1. Highlight soft skills and technical skills

Because you do not have a lot of experience to talk about, you then need to find something to show off to the employer. Create sections for soft skills and technical skills. Highlight skills that you have and the job required on your resume.

  1. Include other points

Be creative with how you want to present information on your resume. Since you don’t have a lot of experience, you might have some free space. You can include other points such as certification, awards, interest, and hobbies can also be added to the bottom of your resume.
